We are very proud at Painters to use as much local produce as we can.

By supporting the us you are indirectly supporting many other local businesses. Here is a list of our suppliers & growers.

Crude COFFEE beans are locally hand roasted to order in Bury St Edmunds from single origin beans and sustainably sourced directly from the farmer – meaning no middle man and awesome coffee.

At Crude, we respect the love and care given to coffee from the farm to the cup, that’s why we love to work directly with the farm to ensure you can taste the farmer’s dedication in every sip.

We get our fantastic Free-Range EGGS from Gill at Ranger Eggs Farm Shop located in Long Melford, she also does some lovely chutneys and Christmas trees!

Our thick cut granary and white BREAD & TEA CAKES are from a family run bakery; Westons Bakery, located just up the road here in Sudbury.

Wicks Manor Farm in Maldon provides us with their award winning BACON, CUMBERLAND SAUSAGES & HAM

“We grow the crops to feed our pigs. Wheat and barley is grown and milled on our home farm to produce food for our pigs, that way we can confidently tell you exactly what’s in your meat.

Our pigs are born and bred, farmed and fed on the Wicks Manor Farm or sourced from local East Anglian farms. The pigs are reared in open strawed yards with plenty of room to express their natural behaviours. The welfare of our animals always come first because a happy, stress-free pig produces meat of the absolute highest quality.

All our pork products are prepared in the farm butchery to our unique recipes using only the very best of ingredients. The bacon is dry cured by hand and smoked using a blend of beechwood to give a delicious smokey flavour. Our award winning burgers and sausages have super high meat content and are made using prime cuts of British pork.

We get our Black Pudding and Meat from John Coleman Butcher at his mobile shop that has been running for over 50 years on Sudbury’s Market Hill.

As a top wholesale butcher and retailer we are passionate about knowing exactly where the produce we are selling comes from.  The shop in Boxted displays meat from Colchester Livestock Market and our own herd, local pork & poultry, a wide range of homemade Sausages & Burgers, as well as a wide range and stock of locally sourced fresh vegetables.

At the age of 20, John borrowed a £100 from his mother and began his career in the meat trade.  “JC” as he became known, bought chickens locally before killing them, plucking them and then sending them to market in London.  They knew he was Toby Coleman’s boy and paid him promptly so he could buy more chickens to keep his fledgling business afloat.  He worked hard all day, every day, and three times a week worked all night at the London market.

Building up his business with a livestock holding, John went round the country buying cattle,  and now runs a herd of about 400 cattle. His expertise led to him becoming one of the countries most respected livestock judges, judging at Colchester’s Christmas Livestock Show, for now well over 25 years.  He buys the Colchester Champions most years.   It is not a money maker but a very symbolic message. It says we are always trying to buy the best.

We try and get most of our FRUIT & VEG from the hard working guys at Cox Fruit & Veg, they are a family run business for over 30 years, based at our local market on Sudbury’s Market Hill. They use a wide range of local growers close to their base and also the London wholesale markets to source their products.

Our Potatoes are from Fairfields Farm which are picked by hand. Their family has been farming in East Anglia for 3 generations already, and all of their energy is generated on the farm using sustainable technologies including anaerobic digestion and solar power.

Local raw Honey from Pure Suffolk HONEY at Stour Valley Apiaries. They are a husband and wife business that are passionate about looking after their bees in Apiaries, keeping them happy and healthy, in and around Lavenham and producing pure honey with all the good bits left inside.

Our quirky TEA COSIES are lovingly made by our neighbours’ mum. Keep your eye out as sometimes we have a few for sale within the cafe.

We have a full range of JENIER TEAS available which are ethically sourced, do not compromise on taste and from a family run business started from a converted garage!
